Good beginner books are hard to find. Its tough to wrote a book giving away secrets and explain why you should not do that.
I have been in Magic for over 60 years. It is hard to recommend this book since the more people who read it, the less value it has.
It has a good balance of easy and difficult steps to create a illusion. Klutz has keep their quality up with great writers.

I probably was 12 or so when I was given this book. It is, without a doubt, one of the most important books for me when I was learning magic. The book is very funny and light-hearted. I would also recommend "Juggling for the Complete Klutz" for a book with a similar spirit.
I found the Klutz book on magic to be a wonderful introduction to learning magic. The instructions are excellent - very detailed and easy to follow. I was also impressed by the variety of tricks. If you want to learn magic, this is the book for you.
They tell me they like it. klutz books are great- they are the easiest way that I have found to learn cool things fast. I bought this for my brother in law and my niece- she wanted a "talent" and I thought it would be a good "bonding" exercise. I also got them another klutz book which they tell me they like. I have the harmonica book for myself.
